Dua Lipa and Sobhita Dhulipala went from beaches to ballrooms in the best fashion looks of the week

This week, the best-dressed stars are clocking in full shifts with a game-changing day-to-night wardrobe. From Dua Lipa’s deconstructed sports jersey for the beach and Olivia Rodrigo’s vacay outings in mixed prints, to the full-throttled glamour of Sobhita Dhulipala and Sara Ali Khan in their eveningwear gowns, fashion has never been so 24/7.

Dua Lipa’s latest beach-day look could remind you of your rebellious middle-school art project, back when gym shirts found another life as high fashion. The singer’s deconstructed sports jersey from SSENSE featured bold red lacing that held the panelled piece together and a cheeky Rose Athletic Sportswear logo stamped across the chest. The multi-Grammy Award winner stayed faithful to her signature picks—oversized gold hoops, a yellow flower tucked in her hair, and a straw tote that screamed laid-back cool.

Olivia Rodrigo’s print-on-print dressing, on the other hand, platters the kind of fashion inspiration you didn’t know you needed. On a recent getaway to Marrakech, the singer stepped out in Rixo’s Hayley Dress, featuring bold tulip prints. The vintage-inspired silk crepe de chine midi took in an added layer of brio with the sheer polka-dot-printed detachable scarf trailing down the open back.

When it comes to eveningwear that could cause similar traffic snarls, Sobhita Dhulipala has nailed the right pick once too often. Recently, the actor attended an event in Mumbai clad in a gilded gown from Rahul Mishra’s Spring 2025 collection, ‘The Pale Blue Dot’, which had earlier debuted at Paris Haute Couture Week. Adorned with brass leaves and embroidery dripping with metallic sequins, mother-of-pearl huddles, and shimmering bugle beads, the masterpiece took 1,600 hours to come together.

No red carpet worth its name, though, can do without the attendance of a standout black dress. Sara Ali Khan’s strapless black gown from Isha Jajodia’s label, Roseroom, was all that and more at a starry evening recently. While the intricate lace embroidery and sequin-floral detailing spoke of delicate craftsmanship, the plunging neckline, flowing train, and flared tulle skirt nudged in the required theatrics.

See: Beyoncé’s beaded birdcage veil, circa 2014, designed by Riccardo Tisci, or, in a move that has left an indelible mark on red-carpet history, the extraordinary bejewelled bishop’s hat that Rihanna donned to the “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” gala four years later.

This year, the Met Gala returns with the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”, spotlighting the artistry of Black dandyism and the transformative power of tailored menswear. As we anticipate a parade of bespoke brilliance on the red carpet, it’s the perfect moment to reflect on the head-turning hair accessories that have crowned past Met Galas—from veils whispering secrets to headpieces that redefined the boundaries of fashion.
