Black Pink’s Jennie lights up the Met Gala 2025 in a Chanel look that took 330 hours to create

After co-starring with Dua Lipa for the new Chanel 25 bag’s campaign, brand ambassador and member of Blackpink, Jennie, is once again making her mark at the Met Gala 2025. We thought the brand had already outdone itself with its 2026 resort show in the enchanting setting of Lake Como on April 29, yet for this very special event Chanel takes it up a notch, revealing the full creative talent of its atelier with a design that emphasises the poetry of their universe.

This year’s dress code, “Tailored for You,” which accompanies the Costume Exhibit’s spring exhibition “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” is the perfect showcase for Chanel’s particular savoir-faire. For her look, Jennie wore an off-the-shoulder black satin jumpsuit adorned with pearl cabochons, two strands of pearls, and a white silk camellia with bejeweled buttons. A black satin overskirt lined with white taffeta brought dramatic flair to this elegant look.

Topping off her look in a two-tone hat and matching Chanel pumps, Jennie’s style was directly inspired by Coco Chanel and her designs from the 1920s and 1930s. Rather than simply following the theme, Chanel somehow managed to transcend it, reinterpreting the classic men’s suit and infusing it with its signature contemporary elegance and feminine spirit with a look that took more than 330 hours to make.

An exclusive look inside the 2025 Met Gala

While the first Monday in May always stirs up intrigue, anticipation for the 2025 Met Gala—themed “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” a sartorial homage to the Black dandy—was especially high. Alas, after months of breathlessly waiting to see who would attend and what everyone would wear, the event unfolded in stunning fashion at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Co-chairs Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams all embodied dandyism in custom attire, presiding over an event attended by everyone from Spike Lee and Diana Ross to André 3000 and Halle Berry.

Inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art, artist Cy Gavin drew inspiration from the narcissus flower, which informed the centrepiece, and was also projected onto the ceiling of the Temple of Dendur during dinner at the 2025 Met Gala.

Set designer Derek McLane reinterpreted the painting as the centrepiece—which was made up of over 7,000 suspended flowers, all put together by event planner Raúl Àvila. “It’s spectacular,” Àvila says of this year’s design.

Ahead, take an exclusive look inside the 2025 Met Gala.

Travelling to Vietnam made me realise that my love for holidaying is fading

As we roll our suitcases out of the terminal and pause for a customary group selfie, I sense the air outside for the first time in twelve hours. Hanoi is hot and sticky. On the drive to our hotel in Hanoi’s Old Quarter, I gaze at the grey, nondescript landscape. Nothing feels ‘foreign’ yet. The only striking feature is the absurdly thin buildings—a clever workaround implemented to evade taxes during French rule. I cannot decide if they are charming or claustrophobic.

The hotel room is not ready so we leave our bags behind and step out to find lunch. My mouth stinks and there is film on my teeth but this isn’t the occasion to be picky about dental hygiene. The streets are narrow and almost closed to the sky. Every inch of space has been claimed by food stalls with low plastic stools, scooters and cyclos, temples and heritage homes. In the middle of this madness, the green Hoàn Kiếm Lake breathes quietly.

Travelling to Vietnam has been on my bucket list for years, and willing it into existence has been in the works for months. An MS Word document with a schedule and costs was circulated well in advance. ‘Don’t go to Vietnam before watching this’ videos were consumed diligently. No part of the holiday was left to chance. But now that the holiday has officially begun, I feel spent. The strain of sleepless travel, the delay that almost made us miss our connecting flight and the mini-heart attack my brother caused by getting his wife’s initials wrong on the ticket are making themselves known. I want rest and relaxation but what I have is a watertight itinerary and the feeling that I must not falter.

After lunch, we walk to an old cafe for egg coffee. Three ingredients that should never coalesce are poured into the same cup: egg yolk, condensed milk and coffee. Only my brother drinks it. The rest of us quickly drop the pretence of being open-minded and adventurous.
